Information the Service Collects

The Service may collect personally identifying information with your knowledge and consent. For instance, when you register or create an account, create a profile, use the Service, enter a sweepstakes or contest, complete a survey, make a purchase, subscribe to any of our publication(s), send a message, post a communication, such as on or through bulletin boards, forums, personal ads, and chats, or register for any portion of the Service, you are or may be asked to provide information such as your e-mail address, name or phone number as well as the other information required to create a user account. Optional information may also be requested.

Our systems may also automatically collect information about your computer when you visit or use the Service, including without limitation the type of browser software you use, the operating system you are running, the website that referred you, and your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address. Your IP address is usually associated with the place from which you enter the Internet, like your Internet service provider, your company or your university. Any time you visit any of our websites, our servers automatically gather information from your browser (such as your IP addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks) to analyze trends, administer the site, prevent fraud, track visitor movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information. For example, we may log your IP address for system administration purposes. IP addresses are logged to track a user’s session. This gives us an idea of which parts of our site users are visiting.

If we offer Services or products for a fee, to process purchases, we may require your name, address, phone number, email address and credit card information. Such information is used primarily to process your order or as otherwise described herein. Credit card transactions will be processed through industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and/or strong encryption (3DES) by a third party, which only uses your information for that purpose.

Information You Provide

We use personally identifying information you supply through the Service to provide you with the service you have requested. For example, if you subscribe to any of our publications, we may use your e-mail address to send you a confirmation notice and your mailing address to send you the publication. Similarly, if you enter an online sweepstakes or contest, we will use this information to notify you if you are a winner. We may also use the information to communicate with you about new features, products or services, and/or to improve the services that we offer by tailoring them to your needs. We also require an e-mail address from you when you register for our services. We use your e-mail for both transactional (e.g., for paid Services or products) and promotional (e.g., newsletters, new product offerings, event notifications, special third-party offers) purposes. E-mail messages we send you may contain code that enables our database to track your usage of the e-mails, including whether the e-mail was opened and what links (if any) were clicked. If you would rather not receive promotional e-mails from us, please see the section below labeled “Choice/Opt-Out”. We reserve the right to send you certain communications relating to the Service, such as service announcements and administrative messages, without offering you the opportunity to opt out of receiving them. We may also contact you by telephone or text message (including to any wireless number you may provide to us) solely in connection with the Service. If you would rather not receive telephone calls or text messages from us, you may change or delete your number from your account preferences page(s), or ask to be removed from our contact list if you receive a call or text message from us.

Demographic data is also collected at the Website. We use this data to tailor our visitors’ experience at the Website, showing them content that we think they might be interested in, and displaying the content according to their preferences. Some of this information may be shared with advertisers on a non-personally identifiable basis.

We may periodically conduct voluntary member surveys or questionnaires. We encourage our members and users to participate in such surveys and questionnaires because they provide us with important information regarding the improvement of the Service. You may also volunteer for certain surveys and questionnaires that we may offer to our users, and any additional rules regarding the conduct of such surveys will be disclosed to you prior to your participation.

We encourage you to refer a friend to our Website and Service by sending us a friend’s name and email address. We will keep this information in our database, and send that person a one-time e-mail containing your name and inviting them to visit our site. This e-mail will also include instructions on how to remove their information from our database. You agree that you will not abuse this feature by entering names and addresses of those who would not be interested in the Service.

We may make discussion boards available to our members, users and visitors. Any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose any PII. Please consult the community guidelines for the discussion board when posting comments on them for other specific information.

In addition to the uses outlined above, by using the Website and the Service, you agree to allow us to anonymously use the information from you and your experiences to continue our research into successful relationships. This research, conducted by psychologists and behavior research scientists, may be published in academic journals.

Unless otherwise specified on the Service, we may sell or share personally identifying information with our affiliates and associates and with carefully selected third party companies who we think can offer you services and products of interest to you. If you do not wish to have your personally identifying information shared, write to us at the street address set forth at the end of this document. If you do not wish to receive future commercial communications from us by e-mail, simply follow the unsubscribe instructions contained within the e-mail. If you’ve registered on any part of the Service, please use the mechanism on the Service that allows you to change or update your member preferences or information, if available, to keep all such date accurate and up-to-date. Otherwise, contact our Privacy Policy Coordinator as described below with your changes.

We also allow access to our database by third parties that provide us with services, such as technical maintenance or forums software, but only for the purpose of and to the extent necessary to provide those services. And if you choose to purchase items through features on or through the Service, we may forward your information to third parties for services such as credit card processing and order fulfillment. There are also times when you provide information about yourself to us in areas of the site that may be managed or participated in by third parties, such as third party social networking sites (for example, Facebook, Twitter or MySpace), auction services or shopping areas. In such cases, the information may be used by us and by such third party(ies), each pursuant to its own policies. We may also provide your information to our advertisers, so that they can serve ads to you that meet your needs or match your interests. While we will seek to require such third parties to follow appropriate privacy policies and will not authorize them to use this information except for the express purpose for which it is provided, we do not bear any responsibility for any actions or policies of third parties. We may also provide access to our database in order to cooperate with official investigations or legal proceedings, including, for example, in response to subpoenas, search warrants, court orders, or other legal process.

In addition, we reserve the right to use the information we collect about your computer, which may at times be able to identify you, for any lawful business purpose, including without limitation to help diagnose problems with our servers, to gather broad demographic information, and to otherwise administer our Service.

While your personally identifying information is protected as outlined above, we reserve the right to use, transfer, sell, and share aggregated, anonymous data about our users and their use of the Service and our other services for any business purpose, such as analyzing usage trends as they may apply generally, to the Service or otherwise and seeking compatible advertisers and partners.

You may decide to provide us with another person's email address so that person may be invited to join, use, play or otherwise participate in or with the Service or so that we may facilitate your communication with other people through the Service (such as when you upload an address book). You may also provide us with another person's contact information for purposes of delivering information through the Service. We may use this information to contact and, if necessary, remind that person that he or she has been invited to join, use, play or otherwise participate in or with the Service or received content through the Service. All invitees may decline to receive further invitations from us. We may disclose such information if required to do so in order to comply with legal process.

You acknowledge and agree that we may disclose information you provide if required to do so by law, at the request of a third party, or if we, in our sole discretion, believe that disclosure is reasonable to (1) comply with the law, requests or orders from law enforcement, or any legal process (whether or not such disclosure is required by applicable law); (2) protect or defend our, or a third party’s, rights or property; or (3) protect someone’s health or safety, such as when harm or violence against any person (including you) is threatened.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF WE ARE INFORMED OR HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT ANYONE IS USING THE WEBSITE OR THE SERVICE IN ANY WAY RELATED TO THE EXPLOITATION OF MINORS OR OTHERWISE INVOLVING PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL OR SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINORS, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO NOTIFY AND ASSIST ANY AND ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AS WE DEEM APPROPRIATE, AND WE WILL TURN OVER ANY AND ALL OVER INFORMATION, AND OTHERWISE USE ALL OF OUR ABILITIES TO ASSIST, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO INFORMATION OTHERWISE DEEMED CONFIDENTIAL UNDER THIS PRIVACY POLICY.

In addition, as our business changes, we may buy or sell various assets. In the event all or a portion of the assets owned or controlled by us, our parent or any subsidiary or affiliated entity are sold, assigned, transferred or acquired by another person or entity, whether through a merger, sale of assets or otherwise, the information from and/or about our Service users may be among the transferred assets.

Cookies and Beacons

You may have read about “cookies,” nuggets of information that are placed by a Website in a storage place on your own computer. We may use cookies to control the display of ads, to track usage patterns on the site, to compile data regarding the use of the Service and the services offered thereby, to deliver editorial content, and to record registration and personalization information. For example, if you register on any part of the Service and are given the option to save your user name and password on your computer, we can provide this convenience to you by placing a cookie on your computer. Our cookies may contain personally identifiable information and such cookies may be shared with our affiliates and other companies. Some of our advertisers occasionally serve you cookies as well. We do not have control over cookies placed by advertisers.

The Service pages may contain or use electronic images known as Web beacons, sometimes called single-pixel gifs, that may be used to assist in delivering cookies on our sites and allow us to count users who have visited those pages and to deliver co-branded services. We may include Web beacons in promotional e-mail messages or our newsletters in order to determine whether messages have been opened and acted upon. We may also employ Web beacons from third parties in order to help us compile aggregated statistics regarding the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns or other operations of the Service.

We may also use advertising service vendors to help present advertisements on the Service. These vendors may use cookies, Web beacons, or similar technologies to serve you advertisements tailored to interests you have shown by browsing on this and other sites you have visited, to determine whether you have seen a particular advertisement before and to avoid sending you duplicate advertisements. In doing so, these vendors may collect non-personal data such as your browser type, your operating system, Web pages visited, time of visits, content viewed, ads viewed, and other clickstream data. The use of cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies by these advertising service vendors is subject to their own privacy policies, not ours, and we disclaim all liability in connection therewith. If you don’t want any cookies, your Web browser likely includes an option that allows you to not accept them. However, if you set your browser to refuse cookies, some portions of the Service may not function properly.

Information Security and Notification

Because no data transmission over the Internet is completely secure, and no system of physical or electronic security is impenetrable, we cannot guarantee the security of the information you send to us or the security of our servers or databases, and by using the Service you agree to assume all risk in connection with the information sent to us or collected by us when you use the Service. In the unlikely event that we believe that the security of your information in our possession or control may have been compromised, we may seek to notify you. If notification is appropriate, we may notify you by e-mail (provided we have your e-mail address).

Choice/Opt-Out

You may use the following options for removing your information from our e-mail database if you wish to opt out of receiving promotional e-mails and newsletters.

(1) Click on the “unsubscribe” link on the bottom of the e-mail; or

We do not target our sites or services to children under the age of 13, and in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, any information we may receive from users we believe to be under the age of 13 will be purged from our database.
